1. Article: Garden Tool Cleaning

Every gardener knows that cleaning garden tools will keep them functioning better for longer periods. But how many practice it?

Cleaning your garden tools will definitely prolong the life of your tools, make gardening safer and more fun....

We all know the story - you’ve been working for hours on your beds and the evening is drawing in; the last thing you want to do is spend another 15 minutes cleaning all your tools! But, like it or not, this is the best time to do it.

As well as helping to extend the useful life of your tools, garden tool cleaning is very important in keeping your garden at its best too. Leaving soil on your spade is an open invitation for rust to take over as the soil will always have a fairly high moisture content...

...it’s not just the tools which come into contact with soil that need regular attention. Pruning shears and axes in particular should be well taken care of as these are very likely to come into contact with sticky saps or gums which can seriously reduce their effectiveness. A thick and rough cotton cloth should remove these, though you may find it helpful to dampen this with a small amount of paint thinner first.
