Save Money - Change To Drip Irrigation

If you want to cut down on the cost of watering your garden, then drip irrigation is the answer. This system of watering is the most efficient method of watering lawns and gardens and it saves you a lot of money because it prevents the water wastage that occurs with all other forms of watering systems. Its method of delivering water directly to the roots of the plants and grasses - where the water is really needed - is what makes it so efficient.

The water is delivered in drip form and that's why it is also called low volume irrigation. It can be used in a variety of situations including garden and lawn watering, tree watering, green house watering etc.

How Drip Irrigation Works

In a nut shell, it delivers water in “drop form” to the roots of the plants or grasses. To do this a system of tubes and emitters is connected to the water source. The tubes channel the water from the water source to the emitters and the emitters allow the water to escape in “drip form” into the soil through their fine pores.

A simple system can be installed above the ground (surface) or bellow the ground (subsurface). The surface systems are usually easier to maintain than the subsurface systems since they don't require digging . However the subsurface syatems make the garden look neater because they are hidden below the ground. In cases where the surace drip irrigation system is used, they are stapled to the ground using soil staples.

Other parts necessary to make it work well are a filter, a timer a backflow preventer and a pressure regulator.

Advantages Of Drip Irrigation

It saves a lot of money by cutting down on your water bills.

You could use your lawn even while it’s watering. Try that with a sprinkler.

It allows plants grow healthier with fuller roots because the water is applied directly to the roots.

They are cheaper to install than sprinkler systems.

They are more flexible than sprinkler systems. If you change your garden arrangement, you can easily change it to fit your new arrangement.

You prevent those common domestic accidents that occur when someone trips over a sprinkler head.

There are no cases of sprinkler head thefts.

Can be installed as an attachment to your existing sprinkler system to water a new area of your garden.

You can also easily change an existing sprinkler system without replacing the whole system. In most cases all that is needed is just the new kit

CAUTION

Having said all..., it is important to also say this

"It is generally agreed that very large lawns, sports turf and parks still do better with sprinkler systems."
