The Nelson lawn sprinkler company started life back in 1904 when L.R. Nelson invented a coupling device for garden hoses. He patented this and found it was very successful, so in 1911 he started his own company which has been making lawn sprinklers and associated parts ever since. With over 1000 products in their product line, Nelson has something for every gardener. They sell seven different types of sprinklers: Stationary, Whirlers, Turboheart Oscillators, Triple Spray, Pulsating, Rotors and Traveling. Stationary Nelson sprinklers are available in a variety of patterns which have a variety of coverage options. The main point with this type of sprinkler is that it doesn’t move; the water simply comes out of the pre-set holes so will only reach one part of your lawn at a time. Nelson’s Rain Swirl whirling sprinklers have the benefit of giving good coverage over a small to medium sized area of lawn, and again the different models provide a variety of different watering options. Turboheart nelson lawn sprinkler oscillators come in six different models. The benefit with these sprinklers over other oscillating sprinklers is that they have been designed in such a way as to avoid a pause between cycles, which commonly causes water pooling at either end of the sprinklers reach. They have a patented ‘cam’ which forces the sprinkler to change directions. Nelson's Triple Spray lawn sprinkler is also an oscillating sprinkler which comes in four different models. It’s called Triple Spray because the spray tube has 3 different preset coverage selections suitable for small, medium and large lawn sizes. The pulsating RainPulse comes in a variety of models. These are described as ‘impact’ sprinklers and the benefit with these is that they are wind-resistant so you don’t have to worry about this common problem which often occurs when sprinkling. Both the spray pattern and the coverage area is adjustable, including a misting setting which is very useful for newly-seeded lawns so as not to disperse the seeds. Nelson lawn sprinkler rotors are Rotor Gear Drive sprinklers which feature a flexible coverage area coupled with the even coverage and quiet operation you get from oscillators and have ‘Pinch Set’ tabs for adjusting the watering coverage area. Finally the traveling lawn sprinkler made by Nelson, which is trademarked ‘RainTrain’. This traveling sprinkler was apparently introduced by nelson back in 1963 so they have had plenty of time to fine-tune this product to make sure it’s the best it can be! The RainTrain can cover an area of up to 13,500 square feet and has a two speed transmission and automatic shut-off. The spray arms are adjustable so that you can make sure you’re getting the best coverage for your lawn. Out of all the nelson lawn sprinkler products there appears to be a sprinkler to suit all sizes of lawn and all budgets.
